Our story began over 160 years ago with the Correa Albano brothers in the Curico Valley. The experience and track record San Pedro has built up over the course of our lengthy history have enabled us to become one of Chile’s most important wineries and a significant global player.
San Pedro’s adventurous spirit has allowed us to expand viticulture into previously unexplored regions across Chile, from the north to the south, and from the coast to the Andes mountains.
Guided by our values of excellence, exploration, diversity, and sustainability, the following brands embody Viña San Pedro’s commitment to quality, innovation, and the richness of Chilean winemaking:
1865
The Beginning of a Legacy in Chilean Winemaking
Viña San Pedro, the oldest winery in the Maule region, began its journey in 1865 when José Gregorio and Bonifacio Correa Albano founded a small vineyard on an estate that initially covered only four hectares. José Gregorio, a descendant of a Spanish family settled in Curicó, was a visionary who embraced viticulture during a time full of challenges. The birth of Viña San Pedro took place in a Chile that was still consolidating its independence and facing difficulties such as a lack of road infrastructure, limited knowledge of viticulture, and a distant connection with Europe. Despite these obstacles, the winery managed to establish itself in the Maule region, laying the foundations to become one of the most important in the country.

1888
First Recognitions for Viña San Pedro
To showcase their progress, Chilean winemakers actively participated in international promotional events, competing with the world's most renowned brands at exhibitions such as Vienna (1873), Bordeaux (1882), Liverpool (1885), Paris (1888), and Barcelona (1888). In the latter two, Viña San Pedro was distinguished among the finest, where its red wine earned a silver medal and a diploma of honour. The winery also gained recognition at the Exposition Universelle in Paris (1889), a landmark event that saw the inauguration of the iconic Eiffel Tower.

1943
From the Correa Family to Wagner, Stein & Cía.
Under the leadership of Guillermo Stein, Viña San Pedro began a new phase of development, marked by the industrialization and professionalization of winemaking. During this time, the winery reached a larger production scale and gained a more international character. Over nearly 40 years, this period saw the creation of important wine brands that endure to this day, such as Castillo de Molina.

1994
The birth of Cabo de Hornos: a Chilean icon
In the 1990s, Viña San Pedro set out to create an iconic wine that would compete with the highest international standards. Thus, Cabo de Hornos was born, a wine that truly expressed the uniqueness of the Molina terroir. The result of over 50 years of vineyard heritage and ideal climatic and geographical conditions for vine cultivation, it earned significant recognition for its distinctive style. The name “Cabo de Hornos” was chosen to evoke the southernmost region of continental Chile, where the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans converge with incredible force. A classic and elegant wine made solely from Cabernet Sauvignon, its first harvest was crafted by renowned French winemaker Jacques Lurton. From that moment, it became a symbol of Chilean wine, known for its character and strength—reserved only for connoisseurs.

2001
Establishment of the San Pedro Cachapoal Andes Winery
In early 2001, Viña San Pedro formed a strategic alliance with Château Dassault from France, aiming to create Icon and Super Premium wines in the Old World style, but crafted with Chilean terroir. This collaboration led to the creation of Altaïr and Sideral. That same year, the San Pedro Cachapoal Andes Winery was established with the mission of producing, promoting, and distributing the finest high-end wines from the winery, including Altaïr, Cabo de Hornos, Tierras Moradas, Kankana del Elqui, and Sideral. Located in the Cachapoal Andes Valley, the winery blends harmoniously with the landscape, and on clear nights, the Constellation of the Eagles is distinctly visible, creating a unique connection to the surroundings.

2002
First vintage of Altair and Sideral
In the inaugural 2002 harvest, the wines achieved outstanding quality and were aged in new French oak barrels before being bottled and carefully stored under controlled conditions to ensure optimal maturation. These first wines made their debut on the international market in 2004.

2002
1865 was launched
In the year 2002, 1865 became the second addition to San Pedro's premium line, its name honoring the year the winery was founded. Each bottle of 1865 captures over 160 years of winemaking experience, demonstrating the evolution and potential of Chilean viticulture
